BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The No. 9 Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team aims to capture its 14th consecutive College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship Wednesday-Friday, April 29-May 1. The 54-hole tournament will be hosted at the par-72, 7039-yard Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Ill.
Senior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) is the reigning CCIW medalist, capturing the title with a score of 208 at Weaver Ridge Golf Course in Peoria, Ill. May 1-3, 2025. The Hinsdale, Ill. native was the fourth straight Titan to win the individual title. Headed into the postseason of his senior campaign, Spitzer currently sits second on the program's career scoring average rankings with a 72.65 average throughout his career.
Throughout the season, sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) has led the Green and White. Recording four top-three finishes, the sophomore earned his first career win at the IWU Invite April 3-4. Castro has earned three CCIW Golfer of the Week awards this season, having compiled a 72.0 stroke average.
In the national ranks, Castro is the highest-ranked Titan at No. 14 in Division III according to the most recent Clippd rankings. Spitzer also ranks in the top-50 nationally, coming in at No. 44.
Castro and freshman Ryan Andrews (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) are set to make their CCIW Championship debuts. Seniors Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central), Aidan Healy (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way West), and Spitzer have six All-CCIW distinctions between them. Bai is set to make his fourth CCIW appearance, while Spitzer and Healy will make their third and second career appearances, respectively.
In the CCIW Men's Golf Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll, IWU topped the rankings with the maximum 64 points and all eight first-place votes. Millikin garnered 52 points, while Carthage had 48 to round out the top-three.
