Spitzer Earns Third Career CCIW Golfer of the Week Honor

Seventh Titan this season to garner award

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf senior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) won his third career individual title en route to his third career College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Golfer of the Week honor, announced by the league office Wednesday, April 22.

Spitzer is the fourth different Titan and seventh in total to earn the conference weekly award this season.

Spitzer won the third individual title of his career Monday-Tuesday, April 13-14 at the Cochran Collegiate in Cordova, Tenn. The senior posted rounds of five-under 67 and even-par 72 in the first two rounds on Monday to take a four-stroke lead headed into the final 18 holes at the par-72, 7,097-yard Colonial Country Club. Spitzer and the Titans battled windy conditions on the final day as the senior posted a five-over 77 to finish even-par (216) for the tournament. The Hinsdale, Ill. native led IWU to its third team title of the season.

The CCIW Tournament is on deck next for Illinois Wesleyan Wednesday-Friday, April 29-May 1. Play from Aldeen Golf Club will begin Wednesday morning as the field battles for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championship.
