Men’s Golf to Host IWU Invite

Titans will have three teams and four individuals competing

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The No. 8 Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team plays host to one of the largest Division III tournaments in the country in the IWU Invite this weekend Friday-Saturday, April 3-4 at two locations in Normal, Ill. The Titans will tee off at the par-72, 6,940-yard Ironwood Golf Course on Friday and finish up the 36-hole competition on Saturday at the par-71, 6,828 Weibring Golf Course.

Sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) has led the Green and White through one tournament this spring. The reigning College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Golfer of the Week, Castro tied for third-place individually at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate Invitational, March 20-22. He recorded the second-lowest 54-hole total in program history, carding a 12-under total of 204 over three rounds.

Senior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) put together a solid showing himself, finishing in the top-20 at the Jekyll Island Invitational. Spitzer finished five-under (211) for 54-holes as he recorded a 17th-place finish in one of the most competitive tournaments in Division III.

IWU will be one of 35 teams in the field, which includes 239 players. Making up the field is No. 11 Aurora, No. 17 Gustavus Adolphus, No. 25 Carleton, Augustana, Bethel, Calvin, Carroll, Carthage, Central, DePauw, Dubuque, Edgewood, Elmhurst, Heartland, Hope, Illinois College, John Carroll, Knox, Lake Forest, Millikin, Mount St. Joseph, Nebraska Wesleyan, North Central, North Park, Olivet Nazarene, Rose-Hulman, Simpson, St. Francis, Trine, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, UW-Superior, Wabash, and Wheaton.

The Titans will have three teams and four individuals competing. The Titan 'A' team will consist of Castro, Spitzer, seniors Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central) and Aidan Healy (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way West), and freshman Ryan Andrews (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville). The Illinois Wesleyan 'B' team will feature senior Myles Lahart (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South), sophomore Lane Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony), and freshmen Kevin Schuh (Glenview, Ill.-Glenbrook South), Jared Code (Calgary, Alberta, Canada-Ernest Manning), and Tyler Short (Lake Geneva, Wis.-Big Foot High School).

IWU's 'C' team will be sophomores Joey Sluzas (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport) and Michael O'Keefe (Chicago, Ill.-Mount Carmel), along with freshmen Kasey May (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine), Alex Rollman (Cincinnati, Ohio-Turpin), and Hunter Whitney (Deerfield, Ill.-Deerfield). Senior Nate Bibbey (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest), junior Sam Rink (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington), and freshmen Kevin Wesolowski (Westmont, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) and Antonio Gutierrez (Elk Grove Village, Ill.-Conant) will compete as individuals.
