Final Results

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The No. 6 Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team completed play at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate Invitational Sunday, March 22, finishing in a tie for seventh-place with a 54-hole total of 15-under par, 849. Sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) led IWU with a top-five finish at the par-72, 6,730-yard Pine Lakes Golf Course. 

Castro recorded three consecutive rounds in the 60s to finish tied for third-place in a loaded field. With his final round of four-under, 68, Castro finished at 12-under par for the tournament. Castro's three-day total of 204 is the lowest of his career, and the second-lowest in program history. His third-place finish is the fifth top-five individual placement of his career. 

Seniors Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) and Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central) each finished under-par for the 54-hole tournament. Spitzer carded a five-under total of 211, and an even-par, 72, score in his final round, placing him tied for 17th. With his third round score of two-under par (70), which included an eagle and five birdies, Bai finished tied for 29th-place with a 54-hole total of three-under, 213. 

No. 1 Huntingdon completed its wire-to-wire victory, finishing 38-under par (826) as a team for the tournament. No. 4 Washington and Lee overtook runner-up position, finishing at 28-under par (836) while No. 6 Sewanee dropped to third at 25-under (839). No. 3 Carnegie Mellon finished fourth-place with an 842 (-22) total, while No. 13 Kenyon and No. 8 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps climbed to finish tied for fifth-place at 16-under par (848). Turner Chiles of Sewanee topped the individual leaderboard at 16-under for the tournament. 

The Titans return home to host the IWU Invite Friday-Saturday, April 3-4, at Weibring Golf Course and Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill. More information can be found on the men's golf page of iwusports.com.
