Men’s Golf Comes In At No. 8 in GCAA Poll

Titans return home for IWU Invite next weekend

NORMAN, Okla. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team clocked in at No. 8 in the most recent edition of the Golf Coaches Association of America Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll, announced by the organization Friday morning, March 27. 

IWU has played in one tournament in its spring campaign, placing seventh at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate Invitational. Sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) led the Titans with a third-place finish, carding a 12-under par score of 204 for the tournament. Castro's three-day total was the lowest of his career and the second-lowest in program history. 

The winners of the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate, Huntingdon, remained at No. 1 with 375 points and all 15 first-place votes. Washington and Lee rose to second with 354 points, while Carnegie Mellon stayed steady in third with 334 points. Emory (304) and Sewanee (303) rounded out the top-five teams. IWU moved from the sixth-spot in the previous poll to the eighth position with 275 points.

The Titans return home to host the IWU Invite Friday-Saturday, April 3-4, at Weibring Golf Course and Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
