Titans Maintain Top-10 Placing in Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The No. 6 Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team maintained position following a second round of 285 at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate Invitational, Saturday, March 21. The Titans sit at 11-under par for the tournament, putting IWU in a tie for sixth-place. The Green and White look to climb the leaderboard in the final round tomorrow, March 22, at the par-72, 6,730-yard Pine Lakes Golf Course.

Sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) continues to lead the Titans at eight-under par through two rounds. Castro's second round score of three-under 69 put him in a tie for sixth-place on the individual leaderboard. Senior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) sits in 14th-place following back-to-back under-par rounds, good for a two-day total of five-under, 139.

No. 1 Huntingdon continued its strong play, firing an 11-under score of 277 in round two to extend its lead to six strokes over No. 8 Sewanee, which is sitting at 22-under par. No. 4 Washington and Lee currently holds the third position on the team leaderboard at 17-under par, while No. 3 Carnegie Mellon and No. 9 Methodist are tied for fourth at 16-under par.

Turner Chiles of Sewanee overtook the individual side of the leaderboard, as he recorded rounds of 64 (-8) and 68 (-4) for a two-day total of 12-under-par, 132.

The third and final round tomorrow, Sunday, March 22, of the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate can continue to be followed here.
