Men’s Golf Ninth in Latest GCAA Poll

TItans coming off of two tournament wins

NORMAN, Okla. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team came in at No. 9 in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll with 286 points, released by the organization Friday, April 17. IWU moved down one spot from the last poll after two consecutive team titles. 

Since the last national poll was released Friday, March 27, Illinois Wesleyan is 51-0 against the field, claiming team titles at the IWU Invite Friday-Saturday, April 3-4 and the Cochran Classic Monday-Tuesday, April 13-14. Sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) won the IWU Invite with a two-day total three-under, 140. Castro is the highest-ranked Titan in the latest Clippd Division III Player Rankings, cracking the top-10.

It was senior Michael Spitzer's (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) turn at the Cochran Collegiate as he claimed medalist honors with an even-par score of 216 at the 54-hole tournament. Spitzer ranks No. 30 in Division III according to Clippd. 

Huntingdon tops the poll for the fourth consecutive week with 400 points and all 16 first-place votes. Carnegie Mellon moved into the No. 2 spot with 383 points, while Methodist climbed to third with 363 points. Washington and Lee (344) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (327) rounded out the top-five teams. 

Illinois Wesleyan returns to action at the Butts Classic hosted by Millikin University at the Country Club of Decatur Monday-Tuesday, April 20-21.
