Men’s Golf Wins Cochran Collegiate

Spitzer wins individual title, five Titans place in top-10

CORDOVA, Tenn. - The No. 8 Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team won the Cochran Collegiate in dominant fashion Tuesday, April 14, held at the par-72, 7,097-yard Colonial Country Club. IWU battled windy conditions over the final 18 holes to post a 303 in the third round which gave the Green and White a 29-stroke lead over host Rhodes College. Senior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) won his third career individual title.

Spitzer won the individual championship by two strokes over sophomore teammate Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine). Spitzer rode his first round five-under 67 and held on to post a 54-hole total of even par (216) for his third career individual win. Castro, fresh off of his win at the IWU Invite, finished two strokes behind Spitzer with a two-over 218 total.

Freshman Kevin Schuh (Glenview, Ill.-Glenbrook South), who competed as an individual, posted the first top-five finish of his career following an impressive final round one-under, 71. Battling the wind, Schuh climbed five spots with his career-best third round.

Freshman Ryan Andrews (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) finished in a tie for fifth-place with a 54-hole total of 225, while senior Aidan Healy (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way West) tied for seventh-place with a total of 227.

The Titans registered a 54-hole total of 22-over, 886, to claim their third tournament win of the season. Rhodes finished second with a 915 total, while Centre climbed into third on the final day (918).

The Titans return for another Monday-Tuesday tournament next week, April 20-21, at the Butts Classic in Decatur, Ill.
