NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Senior javelin thrower Gavin Gonzalez (Mattoon, Ill.-Mattoon) of the Illinois Wesleyan University men's track and field team earned his first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Field Athlete of the Week honor, as announced by the organization Wednesday April 15. It is his first career weekly award and the first by a Titan in the outdoor season.

Gonzalez has thrown in two meets in his first season of competition. In his second career collegiate appearance at the Greenville Select Meet Saturday, April 11, Gonzalez broke a 31-year old school record, previously held by John Munch. The senior threw for 60.87m, nearly 200 feet, which broke Munch's school record of 60.30m set in 1995. As the Division III rankings currently sit, Gonzalez ranks 15th in the country and is within the national championship selection cutline. 

Several Titans head to California Thursday-Friday, April 16-18, for the Bryan Clay Invitational, while the rest of the IWU teams will stay closer to home for the Augustana Meet of Champions in Rock Island, Ill. Saturday, April 18.
