Women’s Bowling Concludes Hoosier Classic

Ari Gamble rolls career-best

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Illinois Wesleyan University women's bowling team put a bow on the 57th Annual Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic Sunday, Feb 15. The Titans placed 64th with a total pinfall of 6348 in the competitive field.

IWU opened up the lanes in the traditional format Saturday, Feb. 14 knocking down 2530 pins as a team. The Green and White logged four scores in the 400's with its best closing at 498 in the final game. The Titans also struck scores of 497 and 472 before dipping to 434 in game three.

Individually, freshman Gigi Sanchez (Zion, Ill.-Zion-Benton) led the way for the Titans rolling a career-best 181 in game five. Sanchez added a 142 in her opening game to close out the four frames with a team-high score of 556. Fellow freshman Ari Gamble (Moline, Ill.-Moline) continued her progression with a score of 130, which was third-best on the squad.

The Titans moved onto the 10-round Baker format, knocking down the rest of their 3,818 pins. As the tournament transitioned to the team format, Illinois Wesleyan bowled in rhythm with its best game coming in game two scoring a 117. IWU leaned on Sanchez in the fifth frame and Gamble in the fourth to tally its next best game at a 106.

NAIA member University of Pikeville won the tournament, defeating the University of Mount Mercy in bracket play. Pikeville finished with a total of 7994 and scored a 2839 in the Baker format

The Green and White will enjoy next weekend off before competing at the second College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament of the year.
