Women’s Bowling Closes out ISPBA/Kegel Collegiate Classic

Sanchez records career-best 150

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University women's bowling team wrapped up its first tournament of the calendar year, Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 17-18, at the ISPBA/Kegel Collegiate Classic in Addison, Ill. IWU sat in 54th place, cushioned between the College of Lake County and Milwaukee School of Engineering.

The Green and White tallied a first-day pinfall of 2,192 with freshman Gigi Sanchez (Zion, Ill.- Zion-Benton) recording a career-best 150 to lead the Titans along with rounds of 143,115, and back-to-back scores of 123 to finish with a final pinfall of 654.

As the tournament turned the page to the Baker format, IWU knocked down 1,419 more pins for a total pinfall of 3,611. Sanchez capped off day two as the bright spot for Titan bowling with knocking down five strikes in the format.

The tournament consisted of all three divisions within the National Collegiate Athletic Association along with 35 NAIA schools, including tournament champion Mount Mercy University, and four community colleges. The Ohio State University, Purdue University, and cross town foe Illinois State University made up the Division I opponents, as the Titans slotted five spots behind the Redbirds, who had a two-day pinfall of 6,399.

The Green and White returns to the lanes in Indianapolis, Ind. for the Hoosier Classic Saturday-Sunday, Feb 14-15.
