Women’s Bowling Sets Eyes on Hoosier Classic

Titans to compete in third tournament of the season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University women's bowling team enters the midway point of its season with the two-day Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic, Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 14-15. The Titans will compete at Royal Pin - Western, as they cross state lines into Indianapolis, Ind.

The Green and White gear up for one of the most important regular season collegiate bowling tournaments of the year, spearheaded by freshman Gigi Sanchez (Zion, Ill.-Zion-Benton). The freshman is coming off a career-best performance of 150 at the Kegel Collegiate Classic. Sanchez was joined by fellow freshman Trinity Ricks (Killeen, Texas-Killeen) who followed with a pinfall of 389. As a team, IWU recorded a two-day total of 3,611, knocking down 2,192 pins Saturday and 1,419 the ensuing day. 

Illinois Wesleyan will open with five games of traditional format Saturday, while Sunday brings a flare of rhythm, as teams compete in 15 Baker games. Following the conclusion of the Baker games Sunday, the top eight teams will be seeded in bracket matches for the championship. 

The 57th variation of the Hoosier Classic marks the inaugural appearance by the Titans. The lanes are set to open at 5 p.m. Saturday evening and 12:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Results will be available on the schedule page of women's bowling following the completion of the tournament.
