Track and Field Claims Five CCIW Titles to Conclude Championships

Walker named CCIW Field Newcomer of the Meet

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – An eventful second day of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships saw the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams come away with five more conference titles, 39 All-CCIW honors, and the CCIW Men's Field Newcomer of the Meet in freshman Nick Walker (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora). The IWU men totaled their highest-ever score at the outdoor championships of 139 to finish second in team standings, while the women's team scored 112.5 points for fourth. 

The North Central men's team totaled 236 points for the team win, followed by IWU and Augustana took third with 125 points. Elmhurst won the women's title with 161.5 points, followed by North Central in second (145) and Augustana in third (114). Additionally, seniors Evelyn Wilson (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo) and Sam Hea (Quincy, Ill.-Quincy Notre Dame) were named IWU's CCIW RESPECT Award recipients. 

Sophomore Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) claimed the women's triple jump CCIW title with a school record and CCIW meet record jump of 12.57m (41'3"). Ogunribido's jump ranks third in Division III this season and is the 12th-best mark in Division III all-time. Senior Franchesca Smith (Chicago, Ill.-Bloomington) claimed All-CCIW honors in the event with an eighth-place finish (10.78m).

Walker did what he does best, producing a 2.03m (6'8") jump to take the CCIW high jump title on his one and only attempt at the height after passing his final attempt at the previous bar. Walker's mark sits 22nd in Division III this season. Sophomore Matt Lindberg (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and freshman Keagan Uphoff (McLean, Ill.-Olympia) join Walker on the All-CCIW list with fourth (1.91m, 6'3.25") and seventh-place (1.83m, 6'3") finishes, respectively.

Junior Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) came back after winning the 3k steeplechase the night before, and turned in a runner-up finish in the women's 1500m in 4:39.05. Senior Emma McGrath (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Oak Lawn) finished seventh in the event in 4:53.64 as both Crabtree and McGrath earned all-conference honors. Crabtree also earned All-CCIW honors in the 5000m where she placed fifth overall in 18:09.28, crossing the finish line alongside senior Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) who finished fourth in 18:08.95. Freshman Maddie Morgan (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West) battled for the seventh-place, All-CCIW finish in the 5k with a time of 18:14.13. 

Senior Ernie Waterson (Bloomington, Ill.-Cornerstone Christian Academy) executed a thrilling come-from-behind win in the 800m to claim the first CCIW title of his career in a time of 1:53.75. Sophomore Aidan Nishimura (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Hersey) and freshman Jacob Pinkston (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) claimed All-CCIW honors in the event as Nishimura finished seventh in 1:58.11 and Pinkston came in eighth at 2:01.98. 

Junior Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), the reigning 400m outdoor conference champion, defended his title after clocking a 47.57-second run with sophomore teammate Reese Dusek (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) trailing Lowder in second at 48.50. Dusek also earned All-CCIW honors in the 200m with a fifth-place finish with a time of 21.94 seconds, bettering his No. 5 mark in program history. Sophomore Noah Sadowski (Burr Ridge, Ill.-Hinsdale South) earned a seventh-place finish in the 400m with his time of 50.89 seconds.

Senior Alex Harvey (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) posted a pair of All-CCIW finishes in the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles. Harvey clocked a 15.22-second run for third-place in the short hurdles before posting a 56.56 fifth-place finish in the 400m hurdles. Harvey was joined by senior Bobby Mogged (Piper City, Ill.-Tri-Point) and freshman Kamden Reynolds (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) in seventh (15.80) and eighth (16.21), respectively. Sophomore Luke Alberstett (Roscoe, Ill.-Hononegah) turned in a seventh-place all-conference finish in the 400m hurdles (59.45) as well. In the women's 400m hurdle race, freshman Kelsey Moore (Arcola, Ill.-Arcola) finished seventh (1:07.30) to snag All-CCIW honors.

Lowder, Dusek, Harvey, and sophomore Carson Green (Centralia, Ill.-Centralia) teamed up for the men's 4-by-400m relay. The quartet moved into second off the line and maintained position through the first three laps before Lowder utilized a strong finish to overtake the Millikin runner on the homestretch for the win in 3:16.96. 

Junior Jahari Scott (Lake Bluff, Ill.-Lake Forest) and freshman Nyamedze Maison (Groveland, Ill.-Morton) finished fifth (10.94) and eighth (11.09), respectively, in the men's 100m final shortly after their second-place finish in the 4-by-100m relay alongside Harvey and Dusek. The relay clocked a 41.37 time, a mark that moves into the No. 3 spot in program history. 

The women's 4-by-100m relay of sophomores Katarina Petrovic (Willowbrook, Ill.-Hinsdale South), Olivia Skibinski (Peoria, Ill.-Richwoods), Ogunribido, and junior Bella Gonzalez (Itasca, Ill.-Lake Park) placed fourth in the event with a time of 47.76 seconds, a mark that ties for 10th in program history. In addition to their relay All-CCIW nod, Gonzalez earned the distinction in the 400m with a fifth-place finish (58.73) while Skibinski did the same in the 100m with her eighth-place finish (12.60).

IWU posted a pair of all-conference performances in the men's triple jump as senior Sam Okewole (Tinley Park, Ill.-Tinley Park) leaped a personal-best of 13.92m (45'8") to finish fourth overall while teammate sophomore Ethan Godsey (Manteno, Ill.-Manteno) jumped a 13.42m (44'0.50") to finish sixth. Okewole's mark came on his sixth and final jump of the day and moves the senior into IWU's program all-time list at No. 8. 

Senior Matthew Wagner (Normal, Ill.-Central Catholic) did not waste any time getting a solid mark in the men's shot put, tossing a 14.28m (46'10.25") on his first throw of the day. Wagner's first throw held steady to the end of finals as he notched All-CCIW honors with a seventh-place finish in the field. In the women's shot put, sophomore Lauryn Moore (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Bolingbrook) turned in a personal-best throw of 11.98m (39'3.75") to move into the No. 6 spot in IWU laurels. Moore finished 10th overall in the event. 

The duo that is sophomore Mackenzie Huber (Lombard, Ill.-Glenbard East) and senior Lauren Huber (Lombard, Ill.-Glenbard East) opened their day going 6-7 in the women's high jump as both cleared 1.55m (5'1") to earn All-CCIW honors. They came back later in the day, taking third (2:14.11) and fourth (2:15.11), respectively, in the women's 800m behind sophomore teammate Alex Reinhart (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) who finished as the runner-up with a 2:12.78-second run. Reinhart's time ranks third in program history, while Lauren Huber ranks fifth and Mackenzie Huber moves up to eighth all-time. 

Both the Hubers and Reinhart teamed up with junior Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) for a second-place finish in the women's 4-by-400m relay (3:52.48).
