GULF SHORES, Ala. - With a slate of four duals in five days underway for its annual spring break trip, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team fell to University of Wisconsin-Superior, 5-2, in Gulf Shores, Ala., Monday morning, March 10. With the loss, IWU dips to 6-8, while UW-Superior improves to 9-3.
The sophomore duo of Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) opened the match with a win at No. 1 doubles, taking the contest 6-2. IWU could not snag either of the other doubles, resulting in the one-point decision going to the Yellow Jackets.
Ehlrich continued her strong start to the trip with a win in the top singles slot. The Springfield, Ill. native took her sets 6-3, 6-0 to secure the point for the Titans. Freshman Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill.-Mundelein) secured the other point for the Green and White, as she was victorious at No. 2 singles. After dropping the first set, 6-3, Lipske responded by taking the second, 7-5, forcing a decisive third set super tiebreaker. The freshman locked in the individual win with a 10-6 decision.
IWU was unable to snag any other singles spots, ultimately falling 5-2.
The Titans return to action tomorrow, March 11, to take on University of St. Thomas (Texas) at 11 a.m. Results will be posted on iwusports.com upon the completion of the match.
