Women’s Tennis Defeats Olivet Nazarene

Titans claim 11th win of season, most since 2005-06

PARK FOREST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team took down Olivet Nazarene University, 6-1, Friday, March 27. The Titans improve to 11-6, marking the most wins in a season since 2005-06, while the Tigers fall to 0-4.

IWU swept the doubles point. Playing in the top spot, juniors Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) defeated Rafa Luna and Jori Lambert, 6-3. Sophomores Gabi Lipske (Gurnee, Ill.-Mundelein) and Katie Van Heuklon (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) won over Lyla Boecher and Savannah Amatyleon, 6-4 at two doubles to clinch the point. Freshmen Adia Douglas (Flossmoor, Ill.-Homewood-Floosmoor) and Elana Religioso (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet) won, 6-2, at No. 3 doubles over Jessica Dakin and Desiree Morifield.

In singles play, Ehrlich cruised against Luna, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Lipske earned a 6-1, 6-1 win against Amatyleon at the second singles slot. Van Heuklon notched a hard-fought, three set win over Lambert, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9. Douglas and Religioso claimed straight set victories at the fourth and fifth singles lines, respectively, to build onto the win.

The Titans play their only home match of the spring season Wednesday, April 8, at 4 p.m. against Greenville University. Action is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club. IWU will celebrate Senior Day and recognize senior Marianna Arias (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) prior to the match.
