Chudy, Women’s DMR Claim CCIW Championship Titles on Day One

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field team had a successful first day of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships in Kenosha, Wis. Friday, Feb. 28 as the Titans turned in nine All-CCIW performances and two event wins in the 5,000m and the distance medley relay.

Senior Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) cruised to a CCIW title in the women's 5,000m after a late push saw the senior clock a 18:28.76, six seconds ahead of the next closest competitor.

The women's distance medley relay quartet of senior Emma McGrath (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Oak Lawn), juniors Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High), and freshman Alex Reinhart (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) ran away with the CCIW title for the second straight year after posting a time of 12:16.98. The squad had a 20-second cushion ahead of the runner-up team and posted the eighth fastest time in program history. 

The Titans kicked off the day on the men's side with two early All-CCIW finishes in its men's pole vaulting duo of junior Isaac Whitaker (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) and freshman Sam Churchill (Seneca, Ill.-Seneca). Whitaker cleared his best bar of the season of 4.61m (15'1") to take third overall, while Churchill cleared 4.31 (14'2") to place sixth in the field.

Senior Carlyssa King (Decatur, Ill.-Forsyth-Maroa) turned in a 15.69m (51'6") throw in the women's weight throw to finish in third place and claim All-CCIW honors. Senior Nick Fisch (Woodridge, Ill.-Montini Catholic) snagged the final All-CCIW spot in the men's 5,000m, as he posted a 15:25.10 time for eighth place. 

The IWU men's long jump group saw three advance to finals on Friday with junior Jahari Scott (Lake Bluff, Ill.-Lake Forest) leading the field. Scott ultimately finished in second with the second-best mark in program history at 6.99m (22'11.25"), while sophomore Carson Green (Centralia, Ill.-Centralia) finished fifth (6.71m, 22'2.5") and freshman Nick Walker (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora) took sixth (6.69m, 21'11'5") for three All-CCIW selections. 

Advancing to Saturday's finals in the men's 55m dash is senior Alex Harvey (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) and junior Joe Freedman (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) while Harvey also joins senior Bobby Mogged (Piper City, Ill.-Tri-Point) and freshman Kamden Reynolds (Normal, ill.-Normal Community) in tomorrow's men's 55m hurdle final.

Sophomore Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) got through to the women's 55m dash finals with the sixth fastest time in the field (7.18).

The Illinois Wesleyan men are second in team standings with 28 points while the women's 26 points are good for fifth through day one. North Central leads on both sides with 42 and 50 points, respectively. 

Day two of the CCIW Championships will resume at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, March 1.
