Women’s Bowling Take Eighth Place in Viking Classic

Bankston-Hunter Sees New Personal Bests

MOLINE, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's bowling team finished up at the Viking Classic in Moline, Ill. Feb. 15-16. The bowlers competed at Highland Park Lanes landing an eighth-place team finish.

Junior Kiera Henderson (Silvis, Ill.-United Township) had the most impressive showing by a Titan at the tournament as she took 19th place individually overall. Henderson finished game five with a pinfall high of 206 on the day to complete her total pinfall of 824, sitting just six pins higher than the 20th place spot where Samantha Olson of Augustana bowled at 818 within the five traditional games. 

Freshman Sapphire Bankston-Hunter (North Chicago, Ill.-Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart) bowled two personal-bests this weekend. She beat her previous best with a single-game pinfall of 146 as well as her total pinfall over five traditional games with a 577. The North Chicago, Ill. native sat 35th overall individually. 

Sophomores Joanna Steven (Chicago, Ill.-Kings College Prep) and Bella Horvath (Glenview, Ill.-New Trier) had a total pinfall of 519 and 394, respectively, as Steven finished in 38th place and Horvath in 40th.

On Sunday, the team played two rounds of Baker games where IWU bowled a 3494, going 0-7, and finished in eighth place overall. Lewis University took first place in the tournament. 

The Titans are back in action in two weeks to compete at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament #2, March 1-2. The tournament will be held by Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
