Spitzer to Compete in Thunderbolt Invitational

Tournament honors military heroes

SURPRISE, Ariz. - Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf senior Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) was chosen to compete in the 2025 Thunderbolt Invitational, hosted by the Golf Coaches Association of America, Tuesday-Thursday, Dec. 29-31. Spitzer will tee it up for the 54-hole tournament at Sterling Grove Country Club in Surprise, Ariz.

Spitzer, a two-time PING All-American, earned his way into the invitation only field via his 2025 PING All-American Second Team nod. Spitzer earned a share of 14th-place at the 2025 NCAA Division III National Championship following his College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin individual title.

In addition to the 54-hole tournament which features many of the best college golfers across all divisions, the mission of the invitational is to honor military heroes. Each participant receives and carries a commemorative PING golf bag that bears the name and branch of a fallen or wounded hero.

Spitzer is set to tee off at 9:30 a.m. MT Tuesday, Dec. 29. Pairings and results throughout the tournament are provided via Golf Genius and can be found here.
