NORMAN, Okla. -
The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team moved into fourth in the final fall edition of the Golf Coaches Association of America Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll, announced Friday morning, Oct. 31.

The Green and White ended the fall season on a high note, finishing runner-up at the prestigious Tartan Invitational hosted by Carnegie Mellon, Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 13-14. The new No. 1 team in the country, Huntingdon, came from behind to take the team win, finishing three strokes lower than the Titans. Sophomore Joey Sluzas (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport) earned his second top-10 finish of the fall, firing a one-under 71 in the final round and claiming seventh-place.

Senior Aidan Healy (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way West) led the Green and White in its fall campaign, averaging 72.5 strokes per round through four tournaments. Healy garnered College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Golfer of the Week honors twice throughout the first half of the season following his second-place finish at the Frank Wrigglesworth Invite, Sept. 14-15 and, later, his third-place showing at the Wabash Invite, Oct. 6-7.

Huntingdon jumped to the top spot in the poll, claiming 13 first-place nods and 386 points, beating out previous No. 1 Emory, who racked up 384 points and three first-place votes. Carnegie Mellon stayed strong, moving up to third with 353 points, while the Titans hopped up to fourth and had 335 points. Mary Hardin-Baylor (327) climbed double-digits from No. 16 to the fifth spot. Sewanee, Methodist, Washington and Lee, Aurora, and Oglethorpe rounded out the top-10 teams.

IWU looks ahead to the spring portion of its schedule, which will be released on the men's golf page of iwusports.com.
