Men’s Golf Finishes Runner-Up at Tartan Invitational

Sluzas earns second top-10 finish of season

LIGONIER, Pa. - The fifth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team finished runner-up in a prestigious field at the Tartan Invitational Tuesday, Oct. 14 to conclude its fall schedule. The Titans carded their best score of the tournament in the final round, firing a 292, to fall only to No. 6 Huntingdon at the par-72, 7022-yard Laurel Valley Golf Club.

Sophomore Joey Sluzas (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport) fired a one-under 71 in his final round, landing his second top-10 finish of the season, finishing in seventh-place in the elite field. Sluzas improved in each of his rounds, carding a total score of 221 (five-over par). Senior Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central) finished in 15th-place after a one-over, 73, in his final round. Bai posted a total score of seven-over par (223) to earn his fourth top-20 placement of his senior year. Sophomore Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) also aided IWU's climb up the leaderboard, posting a one-over, 73, in the final round and earning a 25th-place finish. 

Sixth-ranked Huntingdon came from behind to take the team title with a total score of 886. The Titans and No. 23 Rochester tied for second-place and fell to the Hawks by just three strokes, each posting a 54-hole score of 889. No. 4 Carnegie Mellon and No. 1 Emory rounded out the top-five, carding scores of 890 and 899, respectively. Carnegie Mellon's Joshua Wang won the individual title following a final round three-under (69) and an even-par performance over 54-holes. 

The Tartan Invitational marks the conclusion of the fall portion of the Illinois Wesleyan men's golf season. The Titans spring schedule will be released on the men's golf schedule page of  iwusports.com
