Men’s Golf Expands Lead at CCIW Championship

Titans ranked fifth in final regular season coaches poll

PEORIA, Ill. - The fifth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team fired a nine-under 279 on day two of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship Friday, May 3, at the par-72, 7030-yard WeaverRidge Golf Course. IWU now leads the nine-team field with a 27-stroke cushion.

Fifth-year Bobby Beaubien (Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) matched his score from one day prior, shooting a two-under 70 to remain atop the leaderboard at 140. Sophomore Juney Bai (Mokena, Ill.-Lincoln-Way Central) also carded a two-under and sits tied for second with fellow sophomore Michael Spitzer (Hinsdale, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) at 142 through 36 holes. Spitzer carded IWU's best round of the tournament so far, finishing four-under to fire a 68.

Juniors Griffin Pohl (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township) and Quinn Clifford (Chicago, Ill.-Brother Rice) are in fourth and seventh, respectively. Pohl posted a one-under 71 to push his total to 143, while Clifford is tied for seventh at 146.

The Golf Coaches Association of America released the final Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Top-25 Coaches Poll of the regular season just an hour before IWU teed off Friday, May 3. IWU checked in at No. 5, dropping one spot from last month's rendition. Methodist maintained its spot atop the rankings, while Emory and Carnegie Mellon rank second and third, respectively. Oglethorpe slipped one spot to fourth, with IWU rounding out the top-five.

Final round action is scheduled for tomorrow, May 4, as IWU aims to secure its 12th straight conference title. The Titans will go off the tee beginning at 9:30 a.m., with Clifford getting the day underway for the Green and White.
