Thirty-Six Holes Complete at NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Preview

Three Titans in top-20

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - With two rounds down and one to go, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team sits in third-place at the NCAA Division III Preview hosted by Christopher Newport University. The Titans carded rounds of 280 and 276 Monday, Sept. 21, at the 6667-yard, par-71 Kingsmill Resort.

Sophomore Ben Gelven (St. Louis, Mo.-Mary Institute and Country Day School) put together an exceptional second round, powered by five birdies and an eagle, to climb into the top-10. Gelven, who carded a five-under 66 to end the day, is tied for seventh at 136. Joining him in the top-20 are sophomore Ryan Andrews (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) and junior Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine). Andrews fired back-to-back 69s to hold a share of 13th, while Castro is tied for 19th at three-under, 139.

Topping the team leaderboard, Huntingdon carded rounds of 270 and 273 to head into the final 18 holes at 25-under, 543. Kenyon sits just ahead of IWU at 551. On the player leaderboard, there is a four-way tie between Evan Acevedo (Mary-Hardin Baylor), Jonathan McEwen (Washington and Lee), Connor Gray (Kenyon), Myles Cunningham III (Huntingdon) at eight-under.
