Two Top-10 Finishes Lead Men’s Golf at NCAA Preview

Titans take fourth

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - In a field that featured 14 of the top-15 teams in the country, the fourth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team placed fourth at the NCAA Division III Preview hosted by Christopher Newport University at Kingsmill Resort. The Titans carded a final round 287 on the par-71, 6732-yard course to grab fourth place with a three-round total of 843.

Illinois Wesleyan was one of two teams in the 18-team field to see two place inside the top-10 individually. Sophomore Ben Gelven (St. Louis, Mo.-Mary Institute and Country Day School) put together his best showing of his collegiate career, tying for fifth in a loaded field. Gelven carded a final round 72 to finish five-under (208) for the tournament. Sophomore Ryan Andrews (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) went even-par on the day to grab a share of seventh at 209 (69-69-71). Junior Pablo Castro (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) also posted a below-par 54-hole total, turning in a two-under 211 to tie for 18th.

No. 2 Huntingdon held on for a wire-to-wire win with a three-round score of 834. No. 9 Kenyon took second (836), while sixth-ranked Emory (841), No. 4 IWU (843), and No. 3 Carnegie Mellon (847) rounded out the top-five.

Illinois Wesleyan returns to action next month, Oct. 5-6, at the Wabash Invitational. The Titans will enjoy a Homecoming weekend worth of festivities Saturday, Oct. 3, including a banner-drop recognizing last season's runner-up finish. The 2025-26 squad will then be honored in between the first and second quarters of IWU's football game.
