MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. –
Sophomore sprinter Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) kicked off the NCAA Division III Track and Field National Championships for Illinois Wesleyan University on Friday, May 24, as he earned his spot in Saturday's 400-meter dash final with the seventh-fastest time in the field.

Lowder went to work in the final heat of the 400m preliminary round, moving into the lead spot off the opening curve before battling a headwind on the backstretch. Lowder was neck-and-neck with Alexander Rhodes of Puget Sound in the final 100m, but a lean at the finish saw Lowder take second in the heat with a 47.44-second effort — good enough for a spot in tomorrow's finals as the seventh-fastest mark out of prelims.

Junior Carlyssa King (Decatur, Ill.-Forsyth-Maroa) will kick off Saturday's action in the women's hammer throw at 1 p.m. ET followed by freshman Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) in the women's triple jump at 3:45 p.m. ET. Finals for the men's 400m is set for 5:20 p.m. ET. The full meet schedule and the link to live results can be found here or on the track and field schedule pages of iwusports.com.
