Track and Field Punch NCAA Tickets in Three Events

INDIANAPOLIS – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams had three individuals qualify for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C. next Thursday-Saturday, May 23-25. The NCAA announced its official qualifiers list Friday, May 17.

After turning in a Second Team All-American performance at the indoor championships back in March, freshman Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) will return to the big stage in the women's triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships. Ogunribido locked in her qualifying mark at the CCIW Outdoor Championships with a winning leap of 12.30 meters (40'4.25"). The mark not only broke the conference meet record, but also ranks sixth in the national field.

Also earning her bid to the NCAA Championship with a personal-best performance at the conference meet was junior Carlyssa King (Decatur, Ill.-Forsyth-Maroa) in the women's hammer throw. This will be King's first NCAA appearance as the junior's 53.05m (174') throw ranks 19th in the field.

Sophomore Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) makes his return to the national championship stage after earning Second Team All-American honors at the 2024 Indoor Championships in the men's 400-meter. Lowder locked in his spot in the 400m field early in the season after posting a 47.14-second run at the Huntsman Family Invite, April 6.

Illinois Wesleyan's first event of the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships will be the 400m prelims Friday, May 24 at 5:15 p.m. ET while the women's hammer throw will kick off Saturday's competition at 1 p.m. ET followed by the women's triple jump at 3:45 p.m. ET.
