VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams capped off day one of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships with sophomores Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) in the women's mile and Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) in the men's 400-meter dash.

Crabtree was the first Titan to take the track this weekend, competing in the opening heat of the women's mile run. The sophomore broke from the start line, nestling herself in the middle of the pack before turning in a 13th-place finishing time of 5:01.83.

In the men's 400-meter dash, Lowder found himself in the fifth lane of heat four where he would finish third in the heat. With five total heats, Lowder turned in a 16th-place finish overall with a time of 48.70 but due to a media interference ruling, Lowder was granted an additional spot into tomorrow's finals.

Under the new United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association standards released earlier this week, Crabtree's performance achieved Second Team All-America status for ninth-16th place finishers. An official announcement will be made Monday, March 11.

Freshman Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) will kick off Saturday's action for the Titans in the women's triple jump at 2:30 p.m. ET. Fellow freshman Adam Beasley (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) will compete in the men's high jump at 3 p.m. ET and Lowder will battle the 400-meter dash finals at 4:40 p.m. ET.
