BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –
The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2024-25 season with strong performances at the Titan First Chance inside Shirk Center Saturday, Dec. 7. The Titans saw two school records fall, as well as nine first-place finishes. In total, IWU saw 18 personal-best marks.

On her first jump of the 2024-25 season, sophomore Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) set a new program record in the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.11 meters (39'8.75"). Ogunribido tied the previous school record of 12.07m held by Jill Harmon from 2015, at last year's indoor conference championships. Senior Franchesca Smith (Chicago, Ill.-Bloomington) placed third in the triple jump with a 10.84m (35'6.65").

Junior Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) broke his own school record in the men's 300m, lowering his previous time of 34.99 from a year ago for today's winning time of 34.60 seconds. Lowder remains the only Titan to run the event in under 35 seconds, and is the eighth-best time in Division III history.

The IWU men's high jump trio of sophomore Matt Lindberg (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood), and freshmen Nick Walker (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora) and Keagan Uphoff (McLean, Ill.-Olympia) swept the top three spots in the event Saturday afternoon. Lindberg's 1.95m (6'4.75") leap won the event while Walker placed second with a 1.90m (6'2.75") and Uphoff finished third with a 1.85m (6'0.75") jump.

Five Titan men advanced out of the 60m hurdle preliminary round as senior Alex Harvey (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) clocked the fastest time in the final of 8.56 seconds to claim his first event win of the new season. Junior Bobby Mogged (Piper City, Ill.-Tri-Point) placed third in the finals with a time of  8.63 seconds.

Juniors Abby Quinn (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) and Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) posted second and third-place finishes in the mile run, respectively. Quinn turned in a personal-best time of 5:49.89 while Crabtree clocked a 5:50.14.

Also claiming a second-place finish in the men's mile was senior Zach Marquardt (Minneapolis, Minn.-Washburn) with a time of 4:37.22.

The Titans took the top two spots in the women's 600m. Making her debut for the Green and White, sophomore Alex Reinhart (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) crossed the finish line first, clocking in a time of 1:41.62, six seconds ahead of the field. The mark landed her the No. 10 spot in IWU history Fellow sophomore Peyton Stinger (Wonder Lake, Ill.-McHenry Community) finished runner-up with a time of 1:47.46.

Senior CJ Ladewig's (Palos Heights, Ill.-Stagg) toss of 16.20m (53'1.75") was good enough to register a runner-up finish in the men's weight throw while senior Carlyssa King (Decatur, Ill.-Forsyth Maroa) also claimed a second-place finish in a major personal-best toss of 15.97m (52'4.75") a mark that moves her up to third in program history.

Notching a third-place finish, freshman Sophia Baczak (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) registered a 2.95m (9'8") mark in the women's pole vault to open her collegiate career.

The Illinois Wesleyan jumps finished its strong season opener, as sophomore Ethan Godsey (Manteno, Ill.-Manteno) took the crown in the men's triple jump. Godsey jumped a personal-best 14.30m (46'11.00"), a mark that is nearly a full meter ahead of his previous best to sit No. 2 in IWU laurels all-time.

The Titans finished the meet off by taking first in both 4x400m races. The women's relay of junior Bella Gonzalez (Itasca, Ill.-Lake Park), Stinger, freshman Kelsey Moore (Arcola, Ill.-Arcola), and junior Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) finished nearly 17 seconds ahead of the field with a time of 4:16.67. On the men's side, the quartet of sophomore Carson Green (Centralia, Ill.-Centralia), Harvey, Walker, and Lowder clocked in at 3:31.42 to seal the victory. IWU also turned in a second-place finish in the race, as sophomore Noah Sadowski (Burr Ridge, Ill.-Hinsdale South), senior Bryce Hess (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal West), sophomore Luke Alberstett (Roscoe, Ill.-Hononegah), and freshman Jack Demakis (Crystal Lake, Ill.-Prairie Ridge) turned in a time of 3:34.08.

Illinois Wesleyan got a glimpse of competition for the 2024-25 season with the Titan First Chance on Saturday, but will now take an extended break until after the holidays when IWU hosts the I-55 Invitational Saturday, Jan 18.
