Women’s Wrestling Battles Nationally-Ranked Field at North Central Open

Titans return to action Jan. 15

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – In the company of over a dozen nationally-ranked opponents and more than 40 teams, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's wrestling team traveled three Titans to the North Central College Open Sunday, Dec. 15.

Competing for IWU were freshmen Sifa Feruzi (Denver, Colo.-Macomb Senior), Vanessa Gray (Burlington, Ontario, Canada-Dr. Frank J Hayden), and Jurdan Tyler (Champaign, Ill.-Urbana).

Tyler opened her day utilizing just 47 seconds of the match to pin Kate Riege of UW-Stevens Point. The freshman dropped her second match and battled in the third round before closing out her day with a 1-2 record at 205-pounds.

Wrestling in her collegiate debut, Gray notched her first win and pin of her collegiate career in her second match of the 145-pound bracket. The freshman was up 10-3 before she pinned Maria Potrero of Grand Valley State. 

Illinois Wesleyan's next meet is set for Jan. 15 when the Titans travel to Eureka College for their first dual of the season.
