CEDAR FALLS, Iowa.- The Illinois Wesleyan University women's wrestling team finished in 15th place at the NWCA National Duals hosted by the University of Northern Iowa, Saturday, Jan. 10. The Titans fell to Marymount University 24-18 and defeated McMurry University 25-20.
In their first consolation bout of the day against Marymount University, IWU picked up wins from freshman Leslie Guzman (Fort Worth, Texas.-South Hills) at 110 pounds via forfeit, evening the dual at 5-5. Marymount won the next three matches to take a 18-5 lead. Freshman
Kennedy Murray (Evanston, Ill.-Evanston) got the Green and White back on the board with a victory via forfeit at 145 pounds to close the gap down to 18-10. However, Marymount got its five points back with a pin at 160 pounds. Sophomore
Sifa Feruzi (Denver, Colo.-Macomb) earned a 7-2 decision over Nicolle Ayala Mata at 180 pounds to trim the margin to 24-13. Fellow sophomore
Alivia Davey (Ripon, Wis.-Berlin) rounded out the meet with a win via forfeit.
Against McMurry University, Guzman won at 103 pounds on a forfeit. McMurry won the next four matches to take a 20-5 advantage, but Illinois Wesleyan came back with wins on forfeits from Murray at 145 pounds, freshman AJ Grant (Chicago, Ill.-Phoenix Stem Military Academy) at 160 pounds, Feruzi at 180 pounds, and freshman
Angel Hill (San Diego, Calif.-Mira Mesa).
The Titans are back in action at the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational, hosted by Cornell College, Saturday, Jan 17. Action from Mt. Vernon, Iowa is scheduled for 9 a.m.
