Davey Learns Opponent for NC Women’s Wrestling Championships

Sophomore is IWU’s first national qualifier

INDIANAPOLIS -  Illinois Wesleyan University women's wrestling sophomore Alivia Davey (Ripon, Wis.-Berlin) will face off against West Liberty University's Jamie Shapton, announced by the NCAA Friday, Feb. 27. The two will battle in the opening round of the inaugural NC Women's Wrestling Championship, Friday, Mar. 6. 

The 207-pounder qualified for the national tournament by winning three straight matches in the Region IV meet to earn third place. Davey began her day with a 11-0 technical fall over Hiram's Emily Lorenzon in the consolation quarterfinals. In the consolation semis, she earned a 2-1 win over Mickaela Keane of Northern Michigan to advance to the third-place match. In a rematch against Manchester's Isabel Anaya, the sophomore won on an 8-6 decision. 

Shapton went 3-1 in the Region II meet. She fell in the semifinals before winning two straight to secure a third-place finish.

The winner of Davey and Shapton will take on eighth-seeded Maria Aiono from Presbyterian College Friday morning.
