DUBUQUE, Iowa. - The Spartan Shootout in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 27 saw both the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams post fifth place finishes with 27 and 38 points, respectively. Six Titans on the women's side placed in the top five in their events, while three Titans on the men's side placed in the top five.
Seniors Jules Grunloh (Towanda, Ill.-Lexington) and Peyton Pollman (Mapleton, Ill.-Illini Bluffs) paced IWU in the women's 400m, as they placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Grunloh recorded a time of 1:03.51, while Pollman was not far behind with a 1:03.80.
Sophomore Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) competed in the women's 60m and 200m, posting a third place finish in the 200m with a time of 26.77.
In field events, sophomore Bella Gonzalez (Itasca, Ill.-Lake Park) finished fifth in the long jump (4.86m). Junior Franchesca Smith (Chicago, Ill.-Bloomington) posted a fourth place finish in triple jump with a vault of 10.35m. Junior Carlyssa King (Decatur, Ill.-Maroa-Forsyth) led the Titans in throws, finishing fourth in the weight throw (14.24).
On the men's side, freshman Matt Lindberg (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) posted a second place finish in the high jump, finishing with a personal best 1.95m. That mark ties him with teammate Adam Beasley for the top jump in the CCIW this season. 5th year Drew Tatlock (North Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community HS) posted a fifth place finish in the same event with a jump of 1.80m.
Sophomore Isaac Whitaker (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) also posted a runner-up finish in pole vault. His mark of 4.45m is a season best and puts him in third in the CCIW standings.
From the IUPUI Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind., the men's 4x400 team of junior Alex Harvey (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg), freshman Reece Dusek, sophomore Joel Weber (Roanoke, Ill.-Roanoke-Benson), and Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) claimed sixth place with a time of 3:22.82. The squad's personal best time of 3:22.10, set at the IWU I55-Tri Invite on Jan. 20 is good for second in the CCIW.
IWU will be back in action for the Keck DIII Select inside the Shirk Center next weekend, Friday Feb. 2 and Saturday Feb. 3. Multi events will begin on Friday at 4 p.m. while the remaining events will take place Saturday starting at 10:45 p.m. Senior day will be celebrated before events begin on Saturday.
