BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-
The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field programs earned eight first place finishes at their I-55 Tri home event Saturday, Jan. 20. The IWU men won the meet with 88 points while the women took third with 51 points.

The men's team points would ultimately come down to the 4-by-400-meter relay as the Titans secured not only the event win but also the team title by a mere two and a half points. Washington University in St. Louis trailed the Titans with 85.5 points for second place while Elmhurst University's men scored 39 points for third. WashU's women's squad was a powerhouse in Shirk, totaling 112 points for first place while Elmhurst and Illinois Wesleyan were separated by one point, finishing second and third, respectively.

Sophomore Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) clocked a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin-leading time of 49.60 in the 400-meter run while freshman Reece Dusek's 51.06 was good for third both in the meet and in the conference. Lowder and Dusek would later team up with junior Alex Harvey (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) and sophomore Joel Weber (Roanoke, Ill.-Roanoke-Benson) to win the 4-by-400-meter relay in 3:25.32, nearly two seconds faster than their closest competitors.

A trio of Titans notched qualifying marks into the men's 60m and it was freshman Carson Green (Centralia, Ill.-Centralia) who prevailed with a winning time of 7.19 seconds. Freshman Tyrice Bender was just behind Green in second (7.24) with sophomore Jahari Scott (Lake Bluff, Ill.-Lake Forest) finishing fourth (7.27).

The IWU men's throwers dominated the rings today as junior Matthew Wagner (Normal, Ill.-Central Catholic) tossed a 12.81-meter mark (42'0.50") to win the shot put while teammate junior CJ Ladewig (Palos Heights, Ill.-Stagg) decimated his previous personal-best mark in the weight throw of 15.00m with a 15.76m (51'8.50") showing in today's competition. Junior Sam Hea (Quincy, Ill.-Quincy Notre Dame) and freshman Jeremiah Calbert (Kankakee, Ill.-Bradley-Bourbonnais) aided in a Titan sweep of the men's weight throw coming in second (11.31m, 37'1.25") and third (9.17m, 30'1"), respectively. Sophomore Justin Arya (Skokie, Ill.-Skokie) finished third in the shot put with an 11.00m (36'1.25") throw.

Also sweeping in its event were the Titan men's high jump squad that featured a first-place nod by freshman Matt Lindberg (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) with a 1.90m leap (6'2.75"). Freshman Adam Beasley (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) turned in a second place finish (1.90m, 6'2.75") by way of a tiebreaker, while fifth year Drew Tatlock (North Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community HS) finished third (1.85m, 6'0.75"). Freshman Ethan Godsey (Manteno, Ill.-Manteno) won the triple jump with a 13.14m (43'1.50") mark with junior Sam Okewole (Tinley Park, Ill.-Tinley Park) just behind with a 12.92m (42'4.25") effort. Additional second place performances came from freshman Cole Marshall (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet Seymour) in the long jump (6.28m, 20'7.25") and junior Ernie Waterson (Bloomington, Ill.-Cornerstone Christian Academy) in the 1,200-meter run (3:09.20).

On the women's front, junior Carlyssa King (Decatur, Ill.-Maroa-Forsyth) led the charge with a phenomenal personal-best effort of 14.94m (49'0.25") in the women's weight throw, good for first place in the event. Junior Evelyn Wilson (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo) was just shy of her personal best mark with a 1.55m (5'1") effort in the high jump to place second. Freshman Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill.-Lake Park) finished second in the triple jump (11.35m, 37'3") while senior Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) took third (11.25m, 36'11").

Top-three performances on the track came from sophomore Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) with a second place effort in the 400m (1:00.96) – good for third in the CCIW – and freshman Madyson Synstad (Goodyear, Ariz.-Canyon View) who finished third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.63, 9.56q).

Illinois Wesleyan hits the road Saturday, Jan. 27 for the Spartan Shootout hosted by the University of Dubuque. The Iowa trip marks the only indoor meet on the road for the Titans aside from the conference and national championships later in the season.
