NORMAL, Ill. -
The 13th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf battled toe-to-toe with a field full of NCAA Division III's top talent at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling Sunday, April 16, at Ironwood Golf Course. The two-day tournament saw the Titans play through a mix of conditions en route to a third-place finish behind sophomore Macy Ludwig's (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony) co-medalist showing.

Ludwig put together an impressive final round, which included an eagle on the seventh hole, to tie for first. She finished the day two-under and shared first-place with WashU's Sydney Kuo, the No. 1 ranked player in Division III according to GolfStat, at 146. It is the second win of Ludwig's career and marks the second straight season in which a Titan has topped the field at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling. Overall, Ludwig is the fifth time an IWU player has won the tournament since Illinois Wesleyan began hosting it in 2003.

Also finishing in the top-10 were juniors Lexi Onsrud (Normal, Ill.-University High) and Emma Thorman (Macomb, Ill.-Macomb). Onsrud took fourth after a one-over 73 gave her a 36 hole total of 149. Thorman tied for seventh (74-77=151).

Illinois Wesleyan, which held the lead midway through the final round, finished with a round two score of 305. The Titans tallied a total of 608 for the tournament, to place one stroke behind third-ranked WashU (299-307=607). No. 12 St. Kate's won the tournament behind a final round 297 to record a 601 overall, tying the lowest round at the tournament since it began being held in 2003. No. 1 ranked Emory took fourth at 612 (295-317).

IWU's 'B' team tied for 11th with rounds of 333 and 338 (671) to place ahead of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foes Augie (t-14th), Millikin (18th), and Carthage (19th).

The Titans travel to Franklin, Ind. next weekend, April 22-23, for the two-day Franklin Invitational hosted at The Legends Golf Club. The tournament will serve as IWU's final before the NCAA Division III Championship next month.
