Zera’s First Career Win Leads to CCIW Golfer of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Sophomore Gigi Zera (Glenview, Ill.-Loyola Academy) of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's Golfer of the Week, as announced by the organization Wednesday, April 1. It is the third weekly award of the sophomore's career.

Zera led the Illinois Wesleyan in its first two tournaments of the spring campaign in Arizona. At the Westbrook Invitational, March 7-8, Zera finished tied for 10th with scores of five-over 76 and one-over 72. A week later, Zera earned her first career victory at the SMSU Classic, March 16-17. With a 36-hole career-best of five-over 145, Zera bested the field and led the Titans to their third win of the season. Zera recorded a career-best single round score of even-par 70 in the first round before a second round five-over 75 secured her individual victory.

Illinois Wesleyan returns to action following a weekend off as hosts of the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling at Ironwood Golf Course Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12.
