Women’s Golf Takes Runner-Up at WashU Spring Invite

FARMINGTON, Mo. - The No. 23 Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team used four top-20 finishers to take second-place at the WashU Spring Invite Monday, March 30. The Titans concluded the 15-team tournament with a score of 309 on the par-72, 5,816-yard Crown Point Golf Course to post a weekend score of 607.

Junior Nora Cerroni (Waukesha, Wis-Waukesha North) finished three-over to earn a share of second-place individually. She carded a final round 78 to bump her 36-hole score to 147, three strokes off the lead. Her performance marked the fourth top-five finish of her Titan career, including her second this season.

Junior Emily Gastrau (Wauwatosa, Wis.-Wauwatosa East) placed 11th, matching Cerroni's day-two score at six-over 78. Sophomore Gigi Zera (Glenview, Ill.-Loyola Academy) turned in IWU's best round of the day, a four-over 76, and surged into 13th. Freshman Julia Henry (Homewood, Ill.-Homewood-Floosmoor) climbed six spots on the leaderboard to come away in 17th-place. Henry shot a final round 77.

No. 5 WashU fired an even-par on its home course to win the event at 588. IWU placed second (607), while UW-Stout took third (622). Illinois Wesleyan's 'B' team finished in 14th-place. The Bears' Amy Beanblossom won the tournament with a two-day score of even par (144).

Illinois Wesleyan is back in action Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12, as host to the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling at Ironwood Golf Course.
