Women’s Golf Leads Loaded Field Through 27 Holes

Three in top-10 individually

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -
The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team completed 27 holes Saturday, April 15, at its annual Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling held at Ironwood Golf Course. The 13th-ranked Titans carded a first round 303 on the par-72, 5805-yard course, and currently sit first in a loaded 19-team field.


Illinois Wesleyan carded a first round score of 303, led by junior Emma Thorman's (Macomb, Ill.-Macomb) two-over 74. Sophomore Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony), who eagles the 17th hole, and junior Lexi Onsrud (Normal, Ill.-University High) fired a pair of 76s and sophomore Jacque O'Neill (Harbor Springs, Mich.-Harbor Springs) added a five-over 77. After 18 holes, IWU's 'A' team sat in fourth.

The Titans climbed to first through the first nine holes of round two as the Green and White came out strong. Ludwig, using an eagle on the seventh hole, sits two-under par at the midpoint, while Onsrud is one-under. Thorman is even through nine holes and sophomore Jadyn Spinks (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) is one-over par.

Illinois Wesleyan is atop the team standings with nine holes to play at 13-over par, while No. 1 ranked Emory is in second at 15-over. No. 12 St. Kate's is third at 17-over, while third-ranked WashU (+20) and No. 23 UW-Whitewater (+33) round out the top-five. Highlighted by a career-best three-over 75 from sophomore Kylie Hundman (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic), IWU's "B' team is in 11th-place at 55-over.
