Women’s Tennis Battles Tight with Franciscan

Nie earns first collegiate win

ORLANDO, Fla. - Senior Ice Nie (Shenzhen, China-Shenzhen High School of Science) picked up the first win of her career Friday night, March 17, as the Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team battled Franciscan University-Steubenville. The Titans (0-13) ultimately fell to the Barons (11-6), 5-4.

Illinois Wesleyan earned a win at No. 1 doubles, where Kate Christian (Washington, Ill.-Washington) and Raji More (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) claimed an 8-4 win over Franciscan's Liv Colby and Bella Matt. IWU's four other wins came via singles.

More completed a perfect night with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Andie Wilson (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial) claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4, and Nie escaped with a tight victory at No. 6 singles. After dropping the first 2-6, Nie battled back to win 6-4 and send the match to tiebreaker, where she outlasted Hannah Franzone, 13-11.

Illinois Wesleyan returns to action at home, March 26, against Alverno College. The match is set to take place at Evergreen Racquet Club.
