Women's Golf Takes Home Fourth at Highly-Competitive Westbrook Invite

Three players finish in top-10 individually

PEORIA, Ariz. - The 16th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team kicked off the spring season with a fourth-place finish at the Westbrook Invite at the Lakes Sunday, March 12. The Titans dropped 15 strokes off their opening round score, finishing with a 292 in the final round at the par-71, 5810-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club's Lakes Course.

Illinois Wesleyan finished 12 strokes off the lead in a loaded field that saw No. 10 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps win the two-day tournament with a 587 (296-291). Fifth-ranked George Fox, the tournament host, placed second at 589 (293-296), while No. 1 Redlands took third (301-291=592). IWU used a much-improved second round that saw five players post lower scores than yesterday to edge out No. 23 Trinity (Texas) for fourth. The Titans fired a 292, the second-lowest score of the tournament, to finish with a 599 (307-292). Trinity carded rounds of 307 and 304 to register a two-day total of 611. Alison Takamiya of George Fox claimed medalist honors with an even par 142.

Leading the charge for the Green and White was the sophomore duo of Jadyn Spinks (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) and Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony). Spinks turned in a two-over 73 to finish sixth with a 36-hole tally of 147, while Ludwig tied for seventh behind a final round at even par (77-71=148). Junior Lexi Onsrud (Normal Ill.-University High) tied for 10th (76-73=149).

Illinois Wesleyan enjoys a few weeks away from competition before returning to action at the WashU Spring Invite, April 1-2, in Eureka, Mo. The two-day tournament will be played at Crescent Farms and will serve as the first of four straight weekend tournaments for the Titans.
