BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –
The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track team opened up the 2023-24 campaign in dominating fashion at their home opener Saturday, Dec. 9 as the Titans claimed nine event wins at the Titan First Chance meet inside the Shirk Center. 

Five event wins came at the hands of the IWU women's squad as freshman Imani Ogunribido (Hanover Park, Ill., Lake Park) opened the day's competition with a win in the triple jump with a leap of 11.40m (37'5"). Ogunribido would later turn in a second place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.84 seconds. Junior Davion Lemon (Marrero, La.-Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy) clocked a 26.55 second time to win the 200-meter dash while also claiming a third-place finish in the 60-meter (7.99). Lemon would later team up with senior Avery Smith (Naperville, Ill.-Naperville North), freshman Madyson Synstad (Goodyear, Ariz.-Canyon View), and sophomore Jordynn Griffin (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) for a first-place finish in the 4-by-400-meter relay (4:17.23). Griffin notched a first-place finish in the 300-meter run with a person-best time of 42.63 second while freshman Peyton Stinger (Wonder Lake, Ill.-McHenry Community) rounded out the women's first-place finishes in the 600-meter run (1:45.17). 

A. Smith finished second in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best effort of 26.57 seconds. Second-place efforts also came from junior Evelyn Wilson (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo) in the high jump (1.53m, 5'0.25") and senior Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) in the long jump (5.21m, 17'1.25") and the triple jump (11.28m, 37'0.25"). In addition to her first-place finish in the 4-by-400 relay, Synstad also turned in a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (9.39). Senior Jules Grunloh (Towanda, Ill.-Lexington) finished third in the 300-meter dash in 43.95 seconds, a two-second personal-best for the senior.

On the men's side, Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) kicked off his sophomore season with a pair of wins in the 300-meter dash and the 4-by-400 relay. Lowder clocked a personal-best in the 300-meter of 34.99 before joining the relay quartet of freshman Reece Dusek, sophomore Joel Weber (Roanoke, Ill.-Roanoke-Benson), and junior Alex Harvey (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) for a winning time of 3:27.60. 

The Green and White net a pair of wins in the field as junior Sam Okewole (Tinley Park, Ill.-Tinley Park) won the triple jump with a mark of 13.11 meters (43'00.25") and freshman Adam Beasley (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) won the high jump with a 1.95 meter (6'4.75") clearance. Fifth-year Drew Tatlock (North Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community) and freshman Matt Lindberg (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) landed in a three-way tie for second in the high jump at 1.90m (6'2.75"). Also turning in second-place finishes was freshman Carson Green (Centralia, Ill.-Centralia) in the 200-meter (23.11), Harvey in the 60-meter hurdles (8.70), freshman Ethan Godsey (Menteno, Ill.-Manteno) in the triple jump (13.01m, 42'8.25") and junior Matthew Wagner (Normal, Ill.-Central Catholic) in the shot put (13.26m, 43'6"). 

Personal-best performances brought third-place finishes to both Harvey in the 200-meter (23.26) and junior CJ Ladewig (Palos Heights, Ill.-Stagg) in the weight throw (15.00m, 49'2.50").

Illinois Wesleyan is back at the Shirk Center after the New Year as the Titans host the I-55 Tri Jan. 20.
