Women’s Golf Dominates Day One of Dechert Classic

Titans hold top-two teams spots

DECATUR, Ill. - The 15th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team built up a solid lead Friday, Sept. 23, in the first round of play at the Dechert Classic. The Titans carded a 307 on the par-72 South Side Country Club to sit atop the team standings, while IWU's 'B' team is in second with a 333.

Illinois Wesleyan also owns the top-five spots on the individual leaderboard. Junior Emma Thorman (Macomb, Ill.-Macomb) carded an even par 72 and holds a five-stroke lead over teammate Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony). Ludwig, a sophomore, recorded a 77. Junior Lexi Onsrud (Normal, Ill.-University High) is in third with a 78. Sophomores Jacque O'Neill (Harbor Springs, Mich.-Harbor Springs) and Jadyn Spinks (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) are in fourth and fifth respectively, following rounds of 80 and 81.

Final round action is set to get rolling with an 8 a.m. shotgun start tomorrow, Sept. 24.
