Onsrud Notches Fourth Career Victory, Women’s Golf Second at IWU Fall Classic

NORMAL, Ill. - Junior Lexi Onsrud (Normal, Ill.-University High) picked up an individual win and the Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team took second at the IWU Fall Classic Sunday, Sept. 18, at Ironwood Golf Course. The Titans carded a final round 299 on the par-72, 5835-yard course to finish seven strokes off the lead with a 36-hole score of 608.

UW-Whitewater claimed the team title with the second-lowest score in the tournament's history, as the Warhawks carded a final round 296 to finish with a two-day total of 601. The Titans placed second with rounds of 309 and 299 to post a 608, while Central rounded out the top-three at 619 (308-311). Illinois Wesleyan's 'B' team tied for fifth at 636, finishing five strokes ahead of the next College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin team as Augustana placed eighth with a 641.

Onsrud used four birdies in the middle of her round to card a two-under 70 and climbed up the leaderboard. After entering the day tied for second, Onsrud's ascent ended with her fourth career victory, one in which she won by a two-stroke margin.

Playing on IWU's "Green" team, junior Rachel Ducaji (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin) turned in a stellar weekend. One day removed from a four-over 76, Ducaji posted the best single-round score of her career with a one-over 73 to tie for third at 149. Additionally, her 36-hole total was good for a career-best.

Sophomore Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony) and junior Emma Thorman (Macomb, Ill.-Macomb) also posted top-10 finishes. Ludwig carded a one-over 73 to finish the weekend in fifth with a score of 155, while Thorman earned a share of 10th with a score of 155 (76-79).

Illinois Wesleyan is scheduled to compete at the Dechert Classic next weekend, Sept. 23-24, in Decatur, Ill. The two-day tournament will begin Friday, Sept. 23, with a 1 p.m. start at South Side Country Club.
