Women’s Lacrosse Announces 2022 Team Award Honorees

6/9/2022 12:00:00 PM

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team announced its 2022 team award winners, Thursday, June 9. Senior Bridget O'Malley (Chicago, Ill.-Marist), juniors Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) and Julia Raczykowski (Minooka, Ill.-Minooka Community), and freshman Mallory Mills (Schaumburg, Ill.-Conant) were all recognized.

Gleason and Raczykowski were honored as the Offensive and Defensive MVPs, respectively. Mills was named the Most Improved Player for the Titans and O'Malley was picked as the Heart of a Titan recipient.

Gleason played and started in all 18 games for the Titans. Gleason notched a career-high 34 goals and career-high 41 points over the course of the season. The junior scored a single-game best of five goals against Augustana College, April 9. Gleason scored three-or-more goals in seven different games and earned points in all but four of 18 contests. Gleason finished the season with 29 ground balls, nine caused turnovers, and 33 draw controls.

Raczykowski, a defender from Minooka, Ill. and the Defensive MVP, produced a career-high 13 caused turnovers for the Green and White, in addition to a career-high 20 ground balls. The junior played in 13 games starting in 12.

Playing in all 18 games for the Green and White and starting in 17, Mills was named the Most Improved Player for the season. Mills, a defender, finished with a total of nine ground balls and produced nine caused turnovers, recording three in one game against 2022 NCAA qualifier Geroge Fox, March 21. That same game, Mills recorded her first-career goal.

The Heart of a Titan award is given to the student-athlete that exemplifies what it means to be a Titan women's lacrosse player on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. O'Malley, a leader for the Green and White, suffered an early injury in the year which limited the Chicago native to play in only five games. O'Malley tallied a total of five goals, four assists, six ground balls, two caused turnovers, and 13 draw controls over the five-game span. Off the field the senior never missed a game while embracing a vital role on the sidelines for the Titans. The senior capped off her IWU career and graduated with a nursing degree this past May.

The Titans closed out their season with an overall record of 5-13. After making postseason play as the No. 4 seed, the Green and White's season was ended by No. 1 seeded and No. 20th ranked University of Chicago in the CCIW Tournament semifinals, May 4.

Head Coach Lindsey Kellar awarded letters to 16 student-athletes. Earning a letter for the Titans were:
