Senior Day on Deck for Women’s Lacrosse

Titans take on North Central at 1 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team will host North Central College for its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener Saturday, April 4 at 1 p.m. It will be the first game of a doubleheader, as the Titan men's lacrosse team also takes on North Central inside Tucci Stadium at 4 p.m.

The game will serve as Senior Day for the Titans, with festivities beginning at 12:40 p.m. The Titans will honor fifth-year Bri Kiser (Crown Point, Ind.-Crown Point), seniors Anelise DiGiovanni (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport Township), Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg), Sarah Riepe (Aurora, Ill.-St. Francis), and Sadie Newton (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), as well as junior Chloe Heyl (Houstin, Texas-Emery/Weiner), who is graduating early in December 2026.

Illinois Wesleyan enters the contest with a 4-7 record, most recently downing Hanover College, 21-12, Sunday, March 29, snapping a losing skid. DiGiovanni, the reigning CCIW Offensive Player of the Week, powered the offense with 10 points on a team-best six assists. She also tied for the team-lead in goals with four with sophomore Sophie Shore (St. Peters, Mo.-Francis Howell Central). DiGiovanni tallied a team-high 11 draw controls, smashing her career-best. Shore notched team-highs of seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. Sophomore Marli Brown (Kansas City, Mo.-Notre Dame de Sion) notched the win in goal, making six saves over 60 minutes. 

DiGiovanni sits atop the team with 39 points, aided by a team-best 22 assists. Her 17 goals rank third on the team. Shore is second on the squad with 29 points, composed of 18 goals, also the second-most by a Titan. Her 11 assists ranks third. Sophomore Maddie Gibson (Fenton, Mo.-Rockwood Summit) rounds out the top three with 25 points, coming off a near-even split of 13 goals and 12 assists. Her 12 helpers ranks second on the team. Newton tops the team in goals this season, having scored 21 amid her senior campaign. 

The trio of Newton, Riepe, and Shore continue to lead the team in draw controls, ground balls, and caused turnovers. Newton ranks first on the team with 58 draw controls and 37 ground balls, while her 25 caused turnovers is good for second. Having a breakout year for the Titans, Shore leads the squad with 27 caused turnovers, and is second and third with 30 ground balls and 26 draw controls, respectively. Riepe's 30 draw controls are the second-most on the team, while she sits third with 17 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls. 

In goal for the Green and White, Brown has accrued 82 saves over 446:31 minutes of action. She brings in a record of 3-6 and a .364 save percentage.

IWU will face NCC (2-6) for the 13th time, with the Titans owning an 11-1 advantage. Only having dropped the inaugural meeting in 2015, the Green and White hold an 11-game win streak against North Central, and took the last contest, 22-13, April 16, 2025. Mia Fiandaca led the team with five points and nine draw controls, while Newton notched team-bests of four goals and three caused turnovers. The trio of Fiandaca, Fountain, and DiGiovanni each posted a pair of assists. Lizzie Rymarcsuk logged the win in goal behind 11 saves and a team-leading nine ground balls. The Cardinals enter the weekend off a loss at University of Wisconsin-Stout Wednesday, March 25.
