Women’s Lacrosse Returns Home to Host Hanover

Titans eye final non-conference contest of season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After a stretch of three straight road games, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team returns home to host Hanover College for its final non-conference game of the season Sunday, March 29. Action is set for 1:30 p.m. inside Tucci Stadium. 

The Titans (3-7) enter off a 23-4 loss at No. 20 University of Chicago Wednesday, March 25. Sophomore Lillie Keeton (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) led the team in scoring with two points, as she notched a goal and an assist. Sophomore Sophie Shore (St. Peters, Mo.-Francis Howell Central) tallied a team-high four ground balls, while senior Sadie Newton (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) finished with a team-best four draw controls. Sophomore Marli Brown (Kansas City, Mo.-Notre Dame de Sion) made eight saves in goal. 

Senior Anelise DiGiovanni (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport Township) leads the offense with 29 points, composed of a team-best 16 assists, along with 13 goals. Shore closely follows with 23 points, with her 14 goals and nine assists each ranking third on the team. Sophomore Maddie Gibson (Fenton, Mo.-Rockwood Summit) is third with 20 points, coming on an even split of 10 goals and 10 assists, the second-most helpers on the squad. Keeton's 15 goals are the second-most by a Titan this season. 

At the draw, Newton tops the team with 56 draw controls. Senior Sarah Riepe (Aurora, Ill.-St. Francis) is second with 27 draw controls, followed by 22 from Shore. The trio also lead the Green and White in ground balls and caused turnovers. Shore and Newton are tied for the team-lead in caused turnovers with 22, while Riepe is third with 14. Newton also leads the team in ground balls with 32, followed by Riepe's 24. Shore has scooped up 23 on the season to round out the top three.

In goal for the Green and White, Brown leads the team with 76 saves over the span of 386:31 minutes in between the pipes. The sophomore enters the weekend with a .367 save percentage and a 2-6 overall record. Freshman Allison Vervyncky (Overland Park, Kan.-Saint Thomas Aquinas) has 37 saves in 202:15 minutes, bearing a .425 save percentage and a 1-1 record. 

IWU and Hanover (2-7) will meet for the first time in program history. The Panthers most recently fell to Elmhurst University, 11-5, Wednesday, March 25.
