Track and Field Earns Five First-Place Finishes at Millikin Tri

Women secured two wins, men notched three

DECATUR, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams participated in the Millikin tri-meet, Friday, April 29 at Frank M. Lindsay Field in Decatur, Ill. The Green and White battled Mother Nature, again, with fierce winds and periods of heavy rainfall, but the Titans were able to accumulate a total of five event wins.

For the women, sophomore Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) leaped her way to a victory in the triple jump with a distance of 11.07 meters. Freshman Franchesca Smith (Chicago, Ill.-Bloomington) finished runner-up behind Wong with a personal-best mark of 10.99 meters.

Also in the jumps, senior Emma Helferich (Monticello, Ill.-Monticello) bested the long jump field with her personal-best jump of 5.42 meters for the Green and White. 

Junior Kayleigh Hall (Monticello, Ill.-Monticello) welcomed a personal-best javelin throw toss of 26.98 meters which earned second place.

On the men's side, freshman Luan Ademovski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.-Elk Grove) added another shot put victory to his name by muscling a throw of 14.94 meters. Senior Cole Paraday (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) earned another first-place javelin throw with a distance of 52.12 meters. Junior Ethan Ruth (Winfield, Ill.-Hinsdale Central) secured a personal-best time of 57.14 to claim the 400 hurdles victory, which is good for 10th-fastest in IWU history.

Junior Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) sprinted his way to a second-place finish in the 100 meters, as he crossed the finish line with a time of 10.93. Senior Michael Gryl (Morton, Ill.-Morton) also earned a second-place finish as he notched a time of 19:15.04.

The Green and White will participate in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Friday-Saturday, May 6-7. The two-day championship will be held in Wheaton, Ill. at Wheaton College.
