Track and Field Ends Opening Weekend of Outdoor Season on a High Note

Men won two events, women secured four top-three finishes

NORMAL, Ill. / DECATUR, Ill. -
The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up its busy weekend Saturday, April 2. The throwers competed in the second day of the Illinois State University meet, while the rest of the athletes made the short drive to Decatur, Ill. to compete in the Big Blue Alumni Invite, hosted by Millikin University. 

At ISU, senior Cole Paraday (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) took home first place in the javelin with an impressive toss of  56.67 meters. His toss, which was also a career-best, is the second-longest in IWU history and currently ranks 17th-best in Division III this season. Additionally, at Millikin, junior Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) also bested the 200 meter sprint field with a winning time of 23.02 seconds. 

For the women's team at the Millikin meet, senior Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way North) earned a second-place finish in the 800 meter field as she posted a time of 2:20.78. Sophomore Jules Grunloh (Towanda, Ill.-Lexington) snagged third place in the 400 meter sprint as she clocked in with a 1:02.37 clip for the Green and White.

In the 400 meter hurdles, senior Katie Vogler (Quincy, Ill.-Quincy) notched third place with a time of 1:100.53. Freshman Davion Lemon (Marrero, La.-Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy) also earned a third place finish in the 200 meter sprint with a time of 28.50.

The Green and White will head to Beloit College to compete in thier next meet, April 9, in Beloit, Wis. The start time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
