Harden Claims Mile Title as Track and Field Concludes CCIW Indoor Championships

Women’s team finished fourth, men took eighth

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up the final day of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Indoor Championships at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis., Saturday Feb. 26.

For the championship, the women's team finished in fourth place with 74.5 points. North Central won the 2022 CCIW Indoor Championships with 147 points. Elmhurst (140 points) finished in second place, while Carroll (88.5 points) took home third.

In the men's championship, the Green and White took home eighth with 32 points. North Central won the 2022 CCIW Indoor Championships with 135.5 points. Augustana earned second with 113 points and Wheaton took third with 100 points.

On the women's side, junior Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way North) bested the field in the one mile race as Harden crossed the finish line nearly five seconds faster than the competition with her winning mark of 5:07.91. With this time, the Tinley Park, Ill. native ran the fifth-fastest mile in Illinois Wesleyan history. This is the first time since 2016 that a Titan won the women's one mile race at the CCIW Indoor Championships as Erin McCarey was the last to claim this honor with her time of 4:59.29

Harden also placed third in the 800 meter race as she crossed the finish line with a time of 2:20.85

Sophomore Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) notched second place in the triple jump field with a jump of 10.97 meters. 

Junior Kinlee Miller (Tuscola, Ill.-Tuscola) earned a fourth-place finish in the pentathlon. Her 2802 points generated puts her in seventh all-time in IWU history. Senior Katie Vogler (Quincy, Ill.-Quincy) finished in fifth place in the pentathlon with 2531 points. 

The 4x400 medley relay team featuring sophomore Lexi Ward (Downs, Ill.-Tri-Valley), sophomore Jules Grunloh (Towanda, Ill.-Lexington), Vogler, and Harden manufactured the third-fastest relay in the CCIW with a time of 4:10.25. This team time is the fastest time ran this season by the Green and White by nearly three seconds

Freshman Evelyn Wilson (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo) enjoyed a tie for third in her first ever CCIW Championships by jumping 1.56 meters in the high jump competition.

In the 3000 meter race, senior Lexie Dorsey (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet-Seymour) produced the fifth-fastest time in the CCIW this season with her mark of 10:38.02.

For the men, freshman Luan Ademovski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.-Elk Grove) notched a third place heave in the shot put competition with a distance of 15.42 meters, just .07 meters shy of his personal best mark set this year. 

In the heptathlon, senior Davis Nguy (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington High) etched his name not only in top-10 rankings, but the Bloomington, Ill. native earned a top-three score in IWU history. With his 4091 points, Nguy now sits third in Illinois Wesleyan history. 

Junior Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) earned a third place finish, boosting his seventh-fastest 200 meter mark in IWU history by posting an impressive mark of 22.82. Additionally, he took home fifth place in the 55 meter sprint as he posted a time of 6.52 seconds to lead the Green and White. 

Junior Drew Tatlock (North Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community) also earned a fifth place finish. Tatlock leaped his way to a new personal best for the season by posting a jump of 1.93 meters in high jump.

The track and field teams will next participate in the last chance meet Saturday, March 5. The time and location of that meet is still to be determined. Once the information is known, the men's and women's schedules on iwusports.com will be updated.
