Track and Field Wraps Up Day One of CCIW Championships

Women’s team sits in fourth place, men in eighth

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams participated in day one of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Indoor Championships hosted by Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. Friday, Feb. 25. The women are in fourth place, while the men sit in eighth. 

At the end of day one, the women's team generated 27 points. North Central (59 points), Elmhurst (34 points), and Carroll (30.5 points) round out the top three, respectively. On the men's side, the Green and White earned two points. Augustana leads with 41 points. Millikin (38 points) and Carthage (34 points) complete the top three team scores.

For the women, senior Emma Helferich (Monticello, Ill.-Monticello) earned second place in the long jump competition as she jumped her way to a distance of 5.26 meters. 

In the women's 5000 meter race, senior Lexie Dorsey (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet-Seymour) notched a fourth-place finish turning in a personal-best time of 18:13.51 en route to topping her previous time by nearly 12 seconds. 

The Titans' distance medley relay team that featured junior Jenna Li (Haslett, Mich.-Lansing Christian School), sophomore Lexi Ward (Downs, Ill.-Tri-Valley), freshman Emma McGrath (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Oak Lawn), and freshman Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) turned in the fifth-fastest time in the CCIW with a 13:11.75 mark. 

After five women's pentathlon events in the books, junior Kinlee Miller (Tuscola, Ill.-Tuscola) is sitting in fourth place with 2802 points. Junior Katie Vogler (Quincy, Ill.-Quincy) has earned 2531 points, which is good for fifth.

For the men, after the completion of four heptathlon events, senior Davis Nguy (Bloomington, Ill.- Normal Community) is in second place after generating 2299 points for the Green and White that was highlighted by a second-place high jump finish with a 1.74 meter mark.

Freshman Nick Fisch (Woodridge, Ill.-Montini Catholic) turned in a time of 15:40.42 in the 5000 meter race for a 12th place finish. The freshman etched his name in the record books by producing the 10th-fastest time in IWU history. The Woodridge, Ill. native bested his previous season-best time by nearly 30 seconds.

Both teams will wrap up competition at the CCIW Indoor Championships tomorrow, Saturday Feb. 26 in Kenosha, Wis. The first event is slated to begin at 10:45 a.m. with the 55 meter qualifying round.
