Men’s Golf Leads Loaded Field After One Round at NCAA Fall Preview

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. -
The ninth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team got off to a hot start Sunday, Oct. 2, at the NCAA Division III Fall Preview at Keene Trace Golf Club. The Titans carded an opening round three-over 291 on the par-72, 6780-yard course and hold a three-stroke lead atop the 18-team leaderboard.


Freshman Jackson Hulsey (St. Charles, Ill.) sits tied for medalist honors with Emory's Michael Burry after firing a two-under 70. Hulsey is one of three Titans inside the top-15 of the 90-player tournament. 

Sophomore Quinn Clifford (Chicago, Ill.-Brother Rice) owns a share of sixth, having recorded an even-par 72. Clifford went four-under on the front nine, aided by an eagle on the par-four ninth hole. Fellow sophomore Griffin Pohl (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township) is tied for 15th at two-over (74).

The Titans hold a three-stroke edge in a field that includes 16 top-20 ranked teams. No. 6 Piedmont is in second at 294, followed by No. 13 Washington & Lee (296), and 10th-ranked Wittenberg (297). No. 2 Emory, No. 1 Methodist, and No. 5 Christopher Newport sit in a three-way tie for fifth at 299.
