NORMAN, Okla. - Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf standout
Rob Wuethrich (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) was one of 24 honorees across Division I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA to be named to the All-Nicklaus Team presented by True Spec Golf, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America Thursday, July 29. The team recognizes student-athletes for their outstanding play during the 2020-21 collegiate season.
The All-Nicklaus Team was created in 2008, and is not only named for history's greatest player, Jack Nicklaus, but also to pay tribute to his long-time support of collegiate and amateur golf. Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at The Ohio State University, helped inspire and create the Jack Nicklaus Award in 1988 and it is now presented to the National Player of the year in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, as well as NAIA and NJCAA. Award recipients have combined for over 200 victories worldwide and claimed 23 major championships.
Wuethrich put together a sensational senior season, reeling in countless awards and leading IWU to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championship. A finalist for the Jack Nicklaus Division III Player of the Year, he finished the 2020-21 campaign ranked No. 2 according to GolfStat. He notched 11 top-five finishes in 12 tournaments, highlighted by three wins. Wuethrich earned medalist honors at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Preview, and Millikin's Take Back the Night Challenge. Following an All-CCIW finish at the league championship, Wuethrich collected All-American honors as he tied for fourth at the NCAA Division III National Championship with a four-round score of 288 (72-71-72-73). Since the NCAA Championship, Wuethrich has garnered GCAA All-Region and All-American honors, along with CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition.
